Joshua Aaron Gomez, a former Katy chiropractor, was hit Wednesday with a newly filed sexual assault charge that investigators say traces back to 2019, widening an already active probe into alleged patient abuse. Gomez, who had his state chiropractic privileges suspended years earlier, is already out on bond in a separate case, and detectives say more potential victims are coming forward, as reported by Click2Houston.
Judge Adds 2019 Allegation
At a probable-cause hearing this week, prosecutors convinced a judge to add a separate sexual assault allegation tied to a different woman dating to 2019, according to Click2Houston. The judge also issued a protective order against Gomez and set bail at $50,000, and he has since bonded out, the station reports.
Allegations From A Katy Clinic
The investigation first drew attention after a woman who was weeks postpartum said she was assaulted during a December 2023 treatment at One Life Chiropractic in Katy, according to court records and reporting by the Houston Chronicle. Local officials told the Chronicle they had identified roughly a dozen people with complaints linked to Gomez.
Clinic Owner, Manager Role Questioned
Earlier reporting shows One Life Chiropractic is owned by Gomez’s brother and that Gomez allegedly worked at the clinic despite not being authorized to perform procedures, according to August coverage from Click2Houston. That reporting says the patient alleged Gomez used a Graston tool during a session and made an inappropriate remark while she became uncomfortable.
Case Spans Hidalgo, Harris Counties
Investigators say Gomez was also booked in Hidalgo County earlier this year on a separate sexual assault allegation and posted bond there before the Harris County case moved forward, FOX 26 reports. A woman who spoke with FOX 26 described an April incident and said she underwent a SANE exam; local reporters say detectives suspect complaints may extend across multiple counties.
Detectives Looking For More Survivors
Law-enforcement officials told local outlets they have heard from at least a dozen women with varying complaints and are urging anyone who had contact with Gomez to step forward. KTRK/ABC13 notes the Harris County Sheriff’s Office is treating the investigation as active and multi-jurisdictional.
Legal Status And Regulatory Background
State records reviewed by local reporters show Gomez surrendered his Texas chiropractic license in 2019 following earlier sexual misconduct complaints, an administrative history investigators say they are factoring into the criminal inquiry, as per FOX 26. The newly filed charge, the protective order and the earlier Hidalgo County booking will all be considered at upcoming court dates as prosecutors weigh next steps.
How To Contact Investigators
Anyone with information or potential victims are urged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Division at 713-274-9370 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS, per reporting from FOX 26. Detectives say they continue to piece together complaints across counties and welcome tips that could identify additional survivors.
