El Paso's historic educational landmark, Austin High School, is opening its doors to families and prospective students tonight, Nov. 5, for its Program Night event. This opportunity from 5:30-7:00 PM invites the community to explore the campus's academic offerings and connect with teachers and students. Austin High School, established in 1930, continues to build its reputation as a nurturing ground for generations of Panthers, fostering pride and academic rigor within its halls.
Known for its iconic "A" emblazoned on the nearby mountain, Austin High School maintains a tradition of excellence and resilience, characteristics that are mirrored in its diverse academic programs. Participants will be able to discover firsthand how the school helps students to quickly adapt and gain valuable skills, including through the P-TECH Early College program, which enables students to earn an Associate of Arts degree or industry certifications before graduating, as detailed by El Paso ISD.
The Sandra Day O’Connor Criminal Justice/Public Service Academy stands out as a flagship program, providing immersive experiences in law enforcement, firefighting, and legal studies. This initiative showcases Austin High School's commitment to equipping students for service-based careers, developed in partnership with notable agencies such as the FBI, U.S. Border Patrol, and the El Paso Police and Fire Departments.
In addition to the rigorous academics, Austin High School offers a strong support system for military-connected families, evidenced by its designation as a Texas Purple Star Campus. The school has fundamentally committed to creating a well-rounded environment that not only fosters educational success but also takes seriously nourishing the well-being of its students with programs including tutoring, meals, and comprehensive before-and after-school activities, according to El Paso ISD.
