In the quiet of early Tuesday morning, a pedestrian's life came to an abrupt end on a Fairfield overpass due to a suspected DUI crash, local authorities have reported. The Fairfield Police Department stated that the incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. on the Travis Boulevard overpass near the Interstate 80 off-ramp, where a vehicle struck and killed the pedestrian.
Officers who arrived at the crash scene found the pedestrian deceased, and despite the best efforts of responding Fairfield Fire Department personnel, the individual was declared dead at the location. The driver involved, 35-year-old Kyle Dolcee of Fairfield, stayed at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of DUI, police said. As the Major Accident Investigation Team collected evidence, Travis Boulevard, along with the freeway off-ramp, was closed for several hours, causing significant delays for morning commuters.
According to ABC10, Dolcee has since been booked into custody, while the identity of the pedestrian continues to be withheld pending notification of relatives. The Fairfield Police Department has yet to release additional details about the pedestrian or any potential charges that Dolcee might face post-arrest.
While the roadways have since reopened traffic to normal, the Fairfield community is left with the solemn reminder of the fatal consequences that can stem from the perilous mixture of intoxication and operation of a vehicle. The community awaits more information as investigators piece together the events leading up to the tragedy. Meanwhile, the individual lost in this sorrowful accident remains unnamed, as reported by KCRA.
