A tragic road rage incident in South Phoenix has left a man and his young daughter dead, and a family devastated. This past Saturday, near 19th Avenue and Baseline Road, 30-year-old Quincy Polk and his 8-year-old daughter, Envy Cardenas, were fatally shot. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the Phoenix Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at a Lowe's parking lot, where a physical altercation between drivers escalated to gunfire.
Police have since identified the suspect as 28-year-old Tyrone Dee Chilly, who, after an initial physical exchange, reportedly got back into his vehicle to grab a weapon and open fire into the victims' SUV. Tragically, two children were shot during the incident, with Envy Cardenas succumbing to her injuries. The mother, critically injured, was immediately taken to the hospital in critical condition, and she remains in a medically induced coma. A witness recounted hearing multiple gunshots and acting quickly to protect his children across the street at McDonald's, in a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix.
The family is now grappling not only with grief but with ongoing medical concerns for the survivors. Quoted in an AZ Family report, Joesra Martin, Polk’s mother, expressed her heartbreak: "I ain’t never gonna see my son, I ain’t never gonna see my grandbaby again." Polk's fiancé, Alexis Cardenas, is facing extensive recovery, including facial reconstruction surgery. Their 5-year-old daughter has been released from the hospital but lives now with a bullet that doctors have opted not to remove.
As the family mourns and a community reels from the violence, the suspect has been detained and charged. Chilly has been booked on multiple charges, including two counts of murder, alongside several charges of aggravated assault and endangerment. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities attempting to piece together the event's precipitating factors. A chilling detail shared by FOX 10 Phoenix is that several bystanders' vehicles were struck by gunfire during the incident, though no other injuries were reported outside of those directly involved. Phoenix Police encourage anyone with information regarding the tragedy to come forward.
