Tragedy struck early Saturday morning on a busy freeway connector in Sherman Oaks when a collision resulted in the death of one person. According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on the transition road from the northbound 405 Freeway to the 101 Freeway, where a vehicle hit the center divider.

The crash prompted a full closure of the northbound lanes with resulting in traffic delays following the incident, as reported by FOX LA. By 8:10 a.m., the lanes reopened, and normal traffic flow resumed, though motorists were cautioned to expect some residual delays. The identity of the victim has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Further details revealed by KTLA included footage from the scene, showing a vehicle facing against traffic after the collision. Although initial reports indicated no immediate suggestion of wrong-way driving, the circumstances leading up to the crash remained under investigation by the CHP.

The scenario became more somber with the revelation from the Daily News that a Mazda sedan initially involved in a solo crash became disabled in the lanes. It was subsequently sideswiped by a Ford SUV, then struck head-on by a Toyota SUV. The Mazda's driver was pronounced dead at the scene – their identity withheld pending family notification. The Toyota driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI, confirmed as 37-year-old Mayra Alejandra Sanchez of Granada Hills, the CHP stated.

As the investigation ensued, a Sigalert was issued and later lifted once the freeway was cleared.
