
A homicide investigation is underway in Charlotte's Westover Division after a deadly shooting incident. According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) newsroom, the event occurred earlier today in the 4800 block of Wallingford Street.
Officers were dispatched at around 2:04 a.m. in response to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury call. Upon their arrival, a victim with a gunshot wound was found and was pronounced dead at the scene by MEDIC. As the officers processed the scene, responding to the call serving the public, the specter of violence was once again a stark outline against the quiet of Wallingford Street’s normalcy.
The CMPD has assigned Detective Moran as the lead investigator on this case, delving into the circumstances that culminated in this fatal encounter. Assisting in the investigation were Crime Scene Search experts, gathering physical evidence in the hopes that it will illuminate details leading to the perpetrator. Alongside them were CMPD’s Operations Command and Victim Services, providing necessary support during the investigation.
While the probe into the homicide persists, the CMPD has called on the community for assistance. In earnest efforts to draw the truth from the shadows, Detective Moran and his team are urging anyone with knowledge about the incident to come forward.
