The FDNY has reported the line-of-duty death of Firefighter Patrick Brady, 42, while responding to a major fire in Brooklyn. According to ABC7NY, Brady, who had served with the FDNY for more than ten years, suffered a fatal heart attack on the rooftop while assisting in efforts to contain the fire on Kings Highway last night.

Mayor Eric Adams and FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker were present to address the incident later that night. "He gave his life protecting this city that he loves and there is no sacrifice that is more selfless than the actions that took place this evening," Adams told reporters, offering condolences to Brady's family, as reported by The New York Post. Following the incident, Brady was treated by colleagues before being transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, where he was pronounced deceased.

Brady came from a family with a strong tradition of service, including two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, who also served as FDNY firefighters, along with several other relatives connected to the department. Outgoing Mayor Adams noted this legacy during a press conference, saying, "Firefighter Brady came from a family of firefighters - all dedicated to protecting the lives of their fellow New Yorkers," as stated by ABC7NY. The FDNY community held a bunting ceremony at the Brownsville firehouse where Brady served to honor his life and career.

Brady's line-of-duty death marks the second the FDNY has experienced in the past two weeks, following the passing of FDNY Paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman on October 29. He is survived by his wife. "Please pray for Patrick Brady's family," said FDNY Chief of Department John Esposito, as per ABC7NY.

Around 250 firefighters gathered outside Brookdale Hospital to pay their respects during a dignified transfer of Brady's body. "This is called a dignified transfer," veteran first responder David Burns told The New York Post, describing the ritual of honor performed for those who die in the line of duty. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, and funeral arrangements for Brady are pending.
