In a significant crackdown on alleged drug trafficking in the Pacific Northwest, a joint operation between the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) yielded an impressive haul of narcotics and firearms. Law enforcement conducted simultaneous raids in Portland, Milwaukie, and Vancouver, Washington. According to a news release from MCSO, approximately 14 pounds of various drugs were seized during the operation.
Wrapped up in the seizures were 3.5 pounds of methamphetamine, 7 pounds of cocaine, as well as thousands of Xanax bars and LSD tablets. Unveiled at a residence in the large operation, mushrooms weighing more than 2.5 pounds, along with powdered and liquid forms of ketamine, and nearly a pound of MDMA, also known as ecstasy, were confiscated. Two firearms, a shotgun and a handgun, were also part of the seized items, accompanied by a sum of cash not disclosed in the MCSO statement. Two individuals are now in custody, facing federal charges.
The collaborative force behind these warrants included various agencies, such as the Port of Portland Police Department, United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS), United States Marshal Service (USMS), and United States Postal Inspector Service. These bodies assisted either during the investigation phase or the execution of the warrants. The MCSO Dangerous Drug Team (DDT), a task force empowered through multi-jurisdictional cooperation, is leading the investigation in collaboration with the FBI.
Adding to the arsenal of a multi-agency effort, the Oregon-Idaho High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program participates in the broader war on drugs. This program, as per the MCSO release, is an Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) sponsored initiative that offers funding and coordination to multi-agency drug enforcement operations. The DDT, supported by HIDTA, comprises members from various law enforcement agencies, including the Oregon National Guard analysts.
Although details regarding the identities of the persons arrested and the specific locations of the search warrants are not currently available, the authorities continue their investigations into the matter. MCSO has provided a photo of the evidence accessible to the media, with credit required for its use.
