A tragic incident shook Colorado when a stolen Toyota Matrix was involved in a fatal crash that resulted in the death of five individuals, including three children, on Highway 83 in Douglas County. According to FOX News, the driver of the stolen vehicle, a 31-year-old Denver man, lost control of the car and proceeded to roll into oncoming traffic, where the collision with a Ford sedan occurred just before 4:40 p.m. near milepost 40.5 on Monday afternoon.
The exact cause of the Toyota losing control is still unclear. However, following the crash, the vehicle came to rest in a devastating wreckage that entailed more than the immediate damage, a rupture in the form of lost lives and shattered families. As obtained by 9News, details show how the vehicle was reported stolen from Aurora roughly an hour before the crash, and that the Colorado State Patrol is currently leading an ongoing investigation into the incident.
The impact of the collision was severe enough to result in fatalities on both sides. The Colorado State Patrol confirmed to Denver7 that, along with the Denver man driving the stolen vehicle, the 35-year-old Colorado Springs man driving the Ford Fusion, along with an 8-year-old boy, and both a 12-year-old girl and boy, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other children, a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, were urgently airlifted, fighting to maintain their grip on life, with life-threatening injuries they sustained from the collision.
