Gunshots were fired Saturday night near the Safeway in San Francisco's Outer Richmond neighborhood. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that five people were injured during a fight that escalated alarmingly. Among the victims, one was critically wounded while four others suffered minor injuries.

Responding to the chaos around 9 p.m., officers from the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) arrived at the intersection of Fulton Street and the Great Highway to find multiple individuals struck by bullets, revealed in a social media post from SFPD. Aid was rendered at the scene before paramedics transported the wounded to a local hospital.

The incident occurred adjacent to the Safeway store at Fulton and La Playa streets. According to a statement obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle, Capt. Kevin Lee of the SFPD described the sequence of events. "A fight broke out shortly before 9 p.m. which resulted in the shooting. So far we have five victims that were transported to San Francisco General Hospital," he said.

In the midst of the turmoil, a visitor to the city, Tommy Corcoran, found himself in the fray. Having recently arrived from Phoenix, the 19-year-old witnessed the shooting while exploring the area near Ocean Beach. Corcoran told the San Francisco Chronicle about his harrowing experience. "I’m gonna get home," he said, recounting his effort to seek cover and his loss of a phone in the panic.

Emphasizing the city's stance against violence, Mayor Daniel Lurie stated, "This kind of violence does not represent who we are as a city, and we will never tolerate it." At present, no suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident as the investigation by SFPD continues. The police are appealing to public members for any information and encourage tips to be sent to 415-575-4444 or through a text to TIP411, beginning the message with 'SFPD'.
