The Folsom Police Department has a new influx of cash earmarked for traffic safety, thanks to a significant grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety. Boasting a boost of $173,500, the department plans to pump these funds into a range of enforcement and education initiatives aiming to diminish traffic-related injuries and fatalities on local roads. The grant, as Folsom Police Department officials announced, is set to run through September 2026.
The Folsom Police Department says the grant will help improve traffic enforcement and road safety. Sergeant Paul Rice hopes it will reduce dangerous driving, prevent crashes, and make roads safer for everyone.
The grant will fund programs across the city, including DUI checkpoints, enforcement against distracted driving, and safety measures for cyclists and pedestrians. Officers will also target speeding and running stop signs, which often lead to accidents.
The city will hold presentations on traffic safety, covering distracted and impaired driving, speeding, and bicycle and pedestrian safety. According to Nixle, there will also be joint enforcement with nearby agencies and officer training programs.
The funding hinterland for this safety surge traces back to the California Office of Traffic Safety, which in turn draws from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reservoir — a chain of support designed to trickle down and translate into a tangible uptick in road safety for the people of Folsom.
