In a case that has disturbed Fort Collins community members, former school counselor Janell Edsall was apprehended by Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS) for alleged sexual misconduct involving a juvenile student, according to local authorities from the City of Fort Collins. The investigation by FCPS, which commenced in August 2025, concluded that Edsall had engaged in a sexual relationship with a student from Poudre Community Academy over a year, starting in 2023, when the victim was then a minor.
Documents reveal that Edsall faces multiple charges, including a Class 3 Felony for Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust and a Class 4 Felony concerning Sexual Assault on a Client by a Psychotherapist. Also, she has been charged with a Class 2 Misdemeanor for False Reporting to Authorities, as divulged by FCPS. The counsel's relationship with the educational institution ceased in July 2025, prior to her detention on Wednesday, November 19, and authorities surmise that Edsall, who also practiced privately at Vine Counseling LLC, may have other unidentified victims or instances of misconduct.
