An incident involving former Los Angeles Lakers player Christian Wood unfolded on Wednesday, after three individuals attempted a home invasion in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood. Wood reportedly discharged a firearm in response to the break-in at the residence where he was staying in the 14800 block of Otsego Street around 1 p.m., as per the CBS Los Angeles report.
The suspects, described as three males, allegedly breached the back door to gain access but were met with gunfire from within the house. No injuries were reported, and it appears that nothing was taken from the home. In the chaos of the moment, and perhaps aided by the shots that Wood fired, the suspects fled the scene in a grey Jeep Grand Cherokee down Otsego Street toward Sepulveda Boulevard, according to KTLA.
Details regarding the nature of the gunfire surfaced, suggesting that Wood fired three rounds into the ground to scare off the intruders, a narrative that emphasizes the defensive rather than aggressive use of his weapon. There has been an increased vigilance in the San Fernando Valley community, especially after the grim murder of “American Idol” executive Robin Kaye and her husband during an Encino home invasion back in July, an incident that has stirred concerns about local safety and crime response strategies.
Further adding to the report, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) described the suspects as three Black men, and as of now, they remain at large. The LAPD conducted a thorough search of the property, combing the area for any evidence that could aid in the investigation, as detailed by ABC7. Wood's tenure with the Lakers, spanning from 2023 to 2025, makes him a recognizable figure in the area, adding a high-profile element to the unfortunate incident.
