As Thanksgiving approaches, the city gears up for the expected schedule shifts and closures. Most city offices, including the iconic City Hall, are set to shutter their doors on Nov. 27-28. Residents can rest assured emergency services remain on standby, as usual, according to an announcement posted on the City of Fort Worth's website.

For those pondering about trash, they'll have to hold onto their refuse a tad longer. There will be no residential collections on Thanksgiving Day, a break from the monotony of garbage, recycling, yard waste, or bulk pick-ups. Your Thursday trash treasures will need to wait till Friday, and if Friday was your day, then it’s Saturday for you. Come Dec. 1, it's business as normal, and yes, you can toss out two extra bags of garbage on that first day back.

The City’s four Drop-Off Stations and the Environmental Collection Center are taking a brief respite, too, remaining closed Nov. 27-28. Patrons can return on Nov. 29 to responsibly dispose of their post-feast fallout. Animal lovers will have to hold their visits, as both the North Animal Campus and Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center shut their doors to the public on these dates as well – normal operations will paw their way back on Nov. 29.

Bookworms take note: all Fort Worth Public Library locations will be taking their own break to digest the heavy servings of turkey and gratitude, closing Nov. 27-28. Meanwhile, recreation seekers should be aware that community centers, along with the Haws Athletic Center and Log Cabin Village, will be a series of closures starting as early as noon on Nov. 26. However, if golf is your escape, Rockwood Park and Pecan Valley courses offer a sanctuary on Thanksgiving Day itself, with regular hours resuming Nov. 28.
