Four individuals were hospitalized following a shooting outside Privee on Elm nightclub in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. The incident, which took place near the intersection of Elm St. and Findlay St., occurred just after 1 a.m. yesterday. Cincinnati Police swiftly arrived at the scene to begin their investigation and to gather witness accounts, as reported by WLWT.
A patron at the nightclub, Shalisa Knight from Dayton, told LOCAL12, "We heard the pow, pow, pow, pow, pow, and I looked up and I just seen everybody moving." She had arrived at the club around 12:30 a.m., roughly half an hour before shots rang out. The victims' ages are reported to range between 23 and 42, with all four sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. Police have yet to release details on a suspect or the events leading to the shooting.
This act of violence has not only left the community reeling but has also triggered concern among local businesses about the impact it could have on commerce. An owner at the nearby Findlay Market expressed anonymously that crime incidents such as these make conducting business more challenging, according to FOX19. The location of the shooting is notably close to significant landmarks such as Rhinegeist Brewery and is just a block away from Findlay Market itself.
The incident has spotlighted security issues previously raised by Council member Seth Walsh. As detailed by FOX19, Walsh had contacted City Manager Sheryl Long six months ago to voice concerns about crime at the particular corner where the shooting later took place. "We've been warning the city administration that this is something we need to get under control, and unfortunately, this is exactly what we thought would happen," stated Walsh. Cincinnati Police are urging anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers at (513) 352-3040.
