The Franklin Police Department is rolling out its "Not in Our Mall" campaign, ramping up efforts to cut down on holiday theft and other retail crime during the shopping season surge, this initiative, which entails enhancing the police presence at Cool Springs Galleria and throughout key shopping areas, aims to safeguard shoppers, employees, and store goods during the bustling end-of-year rush. As the festive time unfurls, locals and visitors will come across more officers, both in uniform and undercover, patrolling and responding hastily to criminal offenses, also working in synergy with retailers and the District Attorney’s Office.
"Anyone who thinks about coming to our city to commit retail crime should think again," Franklin Police Chief Deb Faulkner warned, in a statement that clearly sets the tone for zero tolerance against theft, "We will be in the stores, in the parking lots, and everywhere in between. If you steal, we will catch you and put you in jail. It’s that simple" as reported by the city of Franklin's official website. Noteworthy is last year's crackdown, where the operation led to 50 arrests and the recovery of $9,500 in stolen merchandise, attesting to its past success and impact.
While the Franklin Police bolster their holiday vigilance, the department is also sharing tips for shoppers: lock your car doors, don't leave valuables visible in your vehicle, be aware of your surroundings, watch your belongings closely, and report any suspicious activities. These basic but crucial actions can aid in preventing theft and ensuring a safer shopping experience. For emergencies, shoppers are reminded to dial 9-1-1, and for non-emergency assistance, the number to call is (615) 794-2513.
The "Not in Our Mall" operation is set to span the entire holiday season, marking a period where preventative measures are at their peak, but so too are the temptations and attempts by those who would defy the law. The department's resolve reflects an ongoing commitment to maintaining order and protecting the sanctity of holiday cheer against those who would mar it with criminal endeavors, ensuring the spirits of Franklin’s residents and its visitors remain unshadowed by the specter of retail theft.
