The Frisco Rail District is becoming more digitally accessible for gift card shoppers thanks to a new program initiated by the Frisco Community Development Corporation (FCDC). Announced to debut yesterday at 10 a.m., the program promises to double the value for those buying digital gift cards, a boon for both residents and local businesses, according to FCDC.

Under this 'Buy One, Get One' (BOGO) Bonus Card offer, customers can purchase digital gift cards ranging from $25 to $250, and receive a matching bonus card of equal value, the City of Frisco reports. The incentive, described by FCDC Chairman Chad Brubaker as a proud investment of local sales tax dollars, is meant to directly benefit small businesses in the area. However, this digital shift isn't just a simple leveraging of technology for convenience; it's part of a strategic effort to breathe new life into a district that's faced hard knocks from considerable construction in the last 18 months.

Purchasers can follow a simple process: buy a $25 gift card and receive a $25 Bonus Card, thereby having $50 to spend at Rail District establishments. Importantly, while the primary gift card never expires, the Bonus Card will only be valid until January 31, 2026. The FCDC is footing the bill for gift card fees, leaving business owners to handle their own processing costs – a fair trade-off given the potential influx of customers.

With an allocated budget of $500 thousand to help Rail District businesses, $300 thousand is earmarked for support through the Gift Card programs, of which a considerable sum has already seen redemption. Phase I witnessed $170,700 redeemed, and thus far, Phase II ticks in at $2,850, per details from the City of Frisco. Brubaker emphasizes that the initiative also serves to empower business owners to personally promote this boon through their social media channels, further amplifying reach and, potentially, impact.
