Galveston has opened a new cruise terminal, bringing its total to four. The terminal is expected to attract both international and local travelers. AAA projects that 21.7 million Americans will take a cruise next year, according to KHOU.
MSC Seascape is moving from Miami to Galveston. "Expanding to Galveston marks an exciting new chapter for MSC Cruises and a natural next step in our North American growth story," said MSC Cruises North America President Lynn Torrent, as reported by Chron. The move comes as more people are choosing to take cruises. "This is something we’ve talked about for quite some time," said Doug Shupe of AAA, as per KHOU.
MSC Seascape has arrived at the Port of Galveston, offering attractions like the RoboTron ride, multiple dining options, and local features. "We've added plenty of local touches throughout the experience," said Torrent, including Texas-inspired cuisine and country music, along with an exclusive "ship-within-a-ship" experience through the MSC Yacht Club, as mentioned by Chron. The new terminal, funded by a $156.7 million bond package, is expected to create 925 jobs and add $177 million to the local economy, following a similar increase in cruise traffic and spending after Pier 10 opened in late 2022.
