As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, Garland residents should prepare for adjusted schedules across city services. The City of Garland has announced that all offices, including utility customer service and tax offices, libraries, as well as recreation centers and the Carver Senior Center, will take a brief hiatus, shuttering their doors on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27-28. According to a release on the City of Garland, these facilities with Saturday operations will recommence service on Nov. 29, with a return to normal hours on the following Monday, Dec. 1.
The lead-up to the holiday will also see earlier closing times. On Wednesday, Nov. 26, Garland recreation centers will wind down operations at 5 p.m., and libraries will follow suit, closing at 6 p.m. Those planning to hit the links should note that Firewheel Golf Park will partake in the holiday, closing on Thursday, but unlike other city amenities, it will return to form on Friday, Nov. 28.
For Garland citizens attuned to the rhythm of trash collection, the Thanksgiving holiday signifies a slight disruption. Refuse services will be delayed by a day for the Thursday slot, with those collections shifting to Friday, Nov. 28, and the regular Friday route bumping to Saturday, Nov. 29. "Regular pickup schedules for all areas will resume Monday, Dec. 1," reads the City of Garland's declaration. Lastly, the Hinton Landfill and Recycling Center and Transfer Station will join the list of temporary closures, ceasing operations on Thursday, Nov. 27. While the landfill will spring back into action at 7 a.m. on Friday, those intending to use the Transfer Station will need to hold off until 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1.
