The spirit of giving is once again at the forefront in Gastonia as The Lighthouse Children’s Advocacy Center gears up for its annual 'Hope for the Holidays' event, an initiative that has continuously improved the festive season for those in need within the Gaston County community.
Last year, the charity drive saw over 2,000 children benefit from the generosity of a 'Secret Santa' donor who infused the campaign with a $50,000 donation—this singular act of kindness spiraled into a community-wide effort, resulting in an additional $50,000 in contributions, according to details from a recent press release. Returning for a fourth year, this same benefactor has pledged another $50,000 for the 2025 holiday season and hopes to inspire even greater support from both individuals and businesses in the area.
Residents willing to contribute have several ways to partake: financial donations, purchasing items directly from an Amazon wish list linked in the press release, or involving their businesses or groups in hosting collection drives. All gifts earmarked for the 'Hope for the Holidays' campaign must be delivered by December 13th, with a drop-off point specified at The Lighthouse's iconic large red sleigh located at 3150 City Church Street, Gastonia, or sent via Amazon shipments directly to the center.
Apart from the gift and funds collection, The Lighthouse is also calling upon the community for volunteer support during distribution and shopping days in December contact Heather Kauffman at [email protected] for more details about volunteering or the Amazon wish list, similarly can be found on The Lighthouse's Facebook page (The Lighthouse-Gaston County CAC). Families in need are invited to partake in the two designated shopping days: December 16th at the City Church-Fairview Campus and December 19th at the Mt Holly Municipal Complex, with both events kicking off at 9am and running until supplies are exhausted.
The profound impact of 'Hope for the Holidays' is a testament to the power of community solidarity, transforming the season of giving into a lifeline for many.
