Gastonia's tribute to a local visionary has been highlighted in the countdown to an historic celebration. According to a social media post by Gaston County Government, the Robert Benjamin Babington marker is this week's feature as anticipation builds toward the 250th commemorative milestones of America and North Carolina. Situated at 901 S New Hope Rd in Gastonia, the marker stands as an enduring homage to a figure whose dedication brought forth the North Carolina Orthopedic Hospital.
The inscription on the marker faithfully recounts Babington's commitment: "The North Carolina Orthopedic Hospital is his monument. Its need was revealed to him of God; whereupon, he was not disobedient to the heavenly vision - his zeal and perseverance made it a reality. Foy est tout (Faith is All)." These words encapsulate the belief and tireless efforts that Babington invested into the conception and establishment of a facility that would carry forward his legacy beyond his years, spanning from August 24, 1869, to November 28, 1935.
Communities often seek to preserve the memory of individuals whose impact resonate through the ages. As #250America, #America250, #250NC, #NC250, #250Gaston, and #Gaston250 begin trending, such markers serve as waypoints on the journey of reflection and celebration that threads together our shared history.
