The Georgia Department of Community Health has finished its prep work and officially thrown its hat into the federal funding ring. Aiming to revamp the health landscape for rural Georgians, the department has submitted its application for the Rural Health Transformation (RHT) Program, which could trigger a slew of initiatives if the green light comes from the feds.
Driven by public demand, which included insights from townhalls and a potpourri of over 150 suggestions, the department cobbled together an action plan. According to the official announcement, the goal is to cultivate "lasting, transformative change to the rural health ecosystem in Georgia." The exact details on who will benefit from the opportunity and how to participate are still being finalized and will be announced later.
For local updates, the Georgia Rural Health Transformation Program homepage will provide information throughout the grant process. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is expected to announce its decisions by December 31, with the list of winners posted on the same page. Rural health advocates can now review the submitted application, along with supporting letters, FAQs, and other resources, all available on the DCH website. Updated materials will be added regularly.
