Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced that Marcin Pieciak, 37, of Glendale, was sentenced to 24 years in prison for the March 2024 fatal stabbing of Sarah McNally at the Ceili House Bar in Maspeth, Queens, where she was working.
The Queens District Attorney's office stated that Pieciak pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter last month as part of the indictment against him. During the sentencing, District Attorney Katz described the circumstances of the attack and noted its impact on McNally’s family, friends, and colleagues.
On March 30, 2024, at around 6:30 p.m., Pieciak entered the Maspeth establishment and stabbed McNally, 41, nineteen times. The attack inflicted fatal injuries, including a severed spine and damage to the carotid artery. Following the incident, Pieciak attempted suicide and tried to flee the scene, but a bar patron detained him until police arrived.
Justice Ushir Pandit-Durant of the Queens Supreme Court gave the sentence, which also includes five years of supervision after release. Details of the crime scene show that Pieciak cut his own throat several times with a second knife and tried to run from the bar. When police got there, Pieciak came out with two knives and showed them to officers. The officers then took the knives away and arrested him.
