Mayor Eric Adams announced plans for a City Hall ceremony and a fan procession to honor the team, according to Gothamist. The event began at 10 a.m. and highlighted the victorious players and coaches along with city officials.
While only 500 free tickets are up for grabs, fans can snag them online starting at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, with allocation on a first-come, first-served basis. In anticipation of the festivities, the route for the fan march has already been charted, moving from Barclay Street up Broadway directly to City Hall. Adding to the citywide celebration, buildings will glow in sky blue through Monday to tribute Gotham FC.
The championship win was clinched with a late-game goal by Rose Lavelle, her score in the 80th minute marking the high point of the struggle against the Washington Spirit, according to CBS News. Lavelle, elated, said in the hard-fought match, "It was maybe the one moment I had in the game to step up."
