Big economic news out of Georgia, where Gov. Brian P. Kemp has announced a near $10 million dollar boon with Socomec, an electrical component and system manufacturer, setting up shop in Suwanee. This investment is slated to bring 300 new jobs to Gwinnett County, signaling a significant uptick in local employment prospects. "We are excited to welcome Socomec to the No. 1 state for business," Kemp stated, painting a picture of Georgia's robust business landscape primed for innovative manufacturers. This report comes straight from a recent press release on the Governor's official website.
Established over a century ago, Socomec prides itself on specializing in power switching, monitoring, conversion, and energy storage, along with providing expert services that bolster each of these areas. Having launched its U.S. subsidiary in 2009, Socomec has woven itself into the local fabric through investments in manufacturing, product development, and resources. To quote Michele Putignano, President and CEO of Socomec North America, "Opening our new facility in Georgia marks a major milestone in Socomec's growth in North America." It's clear that the firm sees Georgia as fertile ground for innovation and sustainable development, contributing to their growth story in North America, as reported by their recent expansion plans, according to the same press release.
The forthcoming facility, located at 2935 Shawnee Industrial Way, near Suwanee, will inhabit an existing building, with Socomec set to start hiring for production and operations roles in early Q1 2026. As noted by Robin Sodia, Socomec North America's Director of HR, the expansion is not just about job creation but reflects a steadfast commitment to community and progress. "This expansion will create around 300 new jobs, strengthen the local community, and provide opportunities for talented individuals to grow with us as we continue to advance innovation and sustainability across North America," Sodia explained, reinforcing the company's stake in the local area and its workforce, as noted by the Governor's office.
Local officials have been effusive in their praise for Socomec's decision. Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners spoke to the diversified industrial strength of the area and a shared vision for long-term prosperity as Socomec's investment aligns with these strategic goals. Katie Kirkpatrick, President and CEO of the Metro Atlanta Chamber, underscored the region's welcoming canopy for global manufacturers, where an innovative-driven ecosystem, bolstered by talent and infrastructure, awaits. “Here, they find the talent, infrastructure, and innovation-driven ecosystem needed to thrive. Socomec is not just investing in a facility; they are investing in a region built for the future,” she noted, validating the area's capacity to house international business ventures with global manufacturers continually choosing metro Atlanta for such expansions, per the chamber's interview, as per the Governor's office.
Laying the groundwork for this significant project was a collaborative effort, with the Georgia Department of Economic Development's (GDEcD) Global Commerce team being represented by Assistant Director of Statewide Projects John Soper. This endeavor was made in partnership with Partnership Gwinnett, the Metro Atlanta Chamber, Georgia Quick Start, and Georgia Power. Commissioner Pat Wilson of the GDEcD shone a light on the importance of this industry to the strategic interests of the country, expressing anticipation for how Socomec's investment will spearhead innovation and job creation in the region. “Socomec’s investment will drive innovation, create quality jobs for the region, and continue to build out this vital industry. Georgia has maintained representation in Europe for over 50 years, with France as one of our key markets for trade and investment. We look forward to Socomec joining metro Atlanta’s international business community,” stated Wilson, highlighting the long-term economic partnership between Georgia and European entities, as mentioned in the state's announcement.
