New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the launch of the annual statewide holiday drive. The initiative, which began last Saturday, is collecting donations of new, unwrapped toys, coats, and non-perishable food items. Contributions will support local organizations that assist New Yorkers in need during the holiday season, according to the Governor’s office.
In an official statement, Governor Kathy Hochul said, "Generosity is a core value of the holiday season," and noted that the Toy and Coat Drive provides an opportunity "to give back to our communities when it’s needed most." Her office encouraged New Yorkers to donate new, unwrapped toys, coats, and non-perishable food items to support those in need.
The New York State Office of General Services has set up drop-off locations across the state, from Buffalo to Brooklyn, for residents to make donations. These locations will accept contributions through December 5. The Empire State Plaza will continue to receive donations until December 15. Packages can also be shipped directly to the Empire State Plaza for those who prefer to donate online.
Drop-off locations include government buildings in Albany, such as the state Capitol and NYSERDA, as well as agency offices throughout the state, including the Dulles State Office Building in Watertown and the Electric Tower in Buffalo. These locations are accepting unwrapped toys, coats, and non-perishable food items. For those who prefer to donate online, contributions can be shipped directly to a centralized collection hub.
Governor Hochul's office issued an official announcement with information on nearby drop-off locations and the items most needed for in-person donations.
