Decades after the Harris Teeter brand emerged from a merger right in the city of Kannapolis, the grocery chain is set to return to its roots with a new store slated to open in summer 2027. Positioned strategically at the intersection of N. Main St and Loop Rd, the store will act as an anchor for the Market at Millstone development, as noted by the City of Kannapolis's official website. Just a stone's throw from the North Carolina Research Campus, the site's development includes not only the supermarket but also 135 townhomes and a significant 310 apartments.
Considering the magnitude of the project, the development is expected to provide a substantial number of retail employment opportunities in the range of 100 to 200 jobs. Just being constructed on the historic former grounds of Cannon Mills, Harris Teeter's new outpost will span a sizeable 53,000 square feet, according to the details released. The history of the company intertwines with the city fabric, marking the initial union of Harris Food Store and Teeter’s Food Mart back in the '60s, culminating in a legacy that now returns to its source.
Future shoppers at this anticipated Harris Teeter can look forward to an array of in-store amenities, such as a Starbucks corner and the convenient option of Harris Teeter Pick Up shopping. An enhancement to the usual grocery store layout, the store will boast new décor, coupled with expansive produce and meat/seafood departments. In keeping with current trends, a full-service floral department and an elaborate deli and bakery section are also on the blueprint. The latter promises everything from freshly made pizza and Murray’s Cheese island to an Asian hot bar offering and a fresh baked goods program.
Additional conveniences for the Harris Teeter customers, a Fuel Center and a Pharmacy complete with a Drive-Thru option, adds to the appeal of this destination, serving not just as a food shopping venue but a comprehensive service hub for the Kannapolis community.
