Honoring the best in public service, the Department of Human Resources Development (DHRD) recently held the 48th Annual Governor’s Awards ceremony. In a gathering that illuminated the dedication and contributions of state employees, three top honors were bestowed upon deserving public servants in September. The accolades included State Employee of the Year, State Manager of the Year, and State Team of the Year. These individuals and groups represent the pinnacle of commitment and ingenuity in serving the people of Hawai‘i.
A selection committee, comprising members drawn from the wider community, was tasked to thoroughly scrutinize the records of each nominee—to fully celebrate the efforts that stand to benefit not only their respective departments but also the broader community. According to the press release from the Governor's Office, "The nominees exemplify the highest standards of public service and unwavering dedication to the people of Hawai‘i." Performance and impact were key metrics, recognized stupendously through this yearly tradition.
This year’s State Employee of the Year award was deservedly claimed by Marly Jane Nakamura, Corrections Education Supervisor from the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. In alignment with the spirit of service, the State Manager of the Year honor was secured by Kathryn Tipton, a dedicated Librarian within the Hawai‘i State Public Library System. When it came to the State Team of the Year, the Med-Quest Program and Policy Development Office of the Department of Human Services scooped up the commendation for their collective efforts and achievements.
"These award winners have gone above and beyond in service to our community," stated Governor Green.
