The Henderson Police Department is currently investigating after a small terrier dog was found deceased inside a trash can in the Inspirada neighborhood, as reported by several local news outlets. According to KTNV, authorities were alerted to the incident through a social media post within an Inspirada neighborhood group. The dog was found wrapped in a black plastic garbage bag, which had been knotted shut, near Via Firenze and Via Da Vinci. Henderson City Councilwoman Monica Larson became aware of the situation and promptly contacted the city's code enforcement director.
Henderson Police Chief Rader, who was on the scene, has confirmed that their animal cruelty unit is investigating the case. He has urged the public to forward any potentially relevant information through a statement obtained by KTNV. In alignment with "Reba's Law," a recent legislative development in Nevada, individuals convicted of animal cruelty are now subject to significantly more severe penalties. The homeowners who discovered the unfortunate animal are said to have been cooperating with the police and were instrumental in taking the dog to a medical facility.
Further details from a FOX5 report clarified that the dog ultimately passed away after being taken to a Las Vegas Valley animal hospital. The Henderson Police have briefly noted that the investigation is in its early stages and, as such, are currently withholding additional information pending further development.
Adding to the narrative, 8 News Now covered the same incident, stating that the police were informed about it following a surge of public concern sparked by the social media post. The location, where the dog was discovered discarded in a trash bag, was near Sun City Anthem Drive and Bicentennial Parkway. "The investigation is in its early stages, and no further details are available at this time," police told 8 News Now.
