A violent encounter in Hermosa Beach has left a man in his 60s with serious injuries after a group of teenagers on electric bikes assaulted him. The attack, taking place in an alley close to the pier, was recorded by multiple surveillance cameras. The Hermosa Beach Police Department, responding to the incident within minutes, has now launched an investigation, as stated in a department press release shared by KTLA.
Reports from FOX 11 describe the scene on Nov. 21, where the victim, after dining at a restaurant, was attacked around 8 p.m. while carrying home a pizza box. A witness, Matt Terrill, recounted that the teenagers seemed to have planned the assault, with one asking for pizza and others swiftly joining the attack. Following the incident, the group fled, leaving the man with what neighbors called a severe concussion.
The police, while acknowledging the wide circulation of videos showing the assault on social media, have cautioned against public sharing of these images. Officials warned that such actions could disrupt their ongoing investigative efforts. They urge those in possession of videos or photos to directly email evidence to the investigating detective at [email protected], as highlighted in their Instagram post.
Residents are expressing outrage over the brutal event, with concerns raised about accountability and parental guidance in situations involving unruly teen behavior. "Where are the parents of those children doing that?" Mary Nimptsch, a South Bay resident, inquired in a statement obtained by FOX 11. Indicating a wider problem, the same source reported on earlier instances where teenagers on e-bikes engaged in disruptive activities, such as launching fireworks into crowds and assaulting pedestrians. Meanwhile, the victim has been released from the hospital as the investigation by the Hermosa Beach Police Department continues.
