In a significant clampdown on drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession, Catawba County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of a 31-year-old man from Hickory, NC. According to a social media post from the Catawba County Sheriff's Office, Ta'Shawn Thomas Byrd was pulled over by Narcotics Investigators on November 5.
Digging deeper into the traffic stop, the investigators found a reason to search Byrd's vehicle, uncovering roughly 291 grams of cocaine, two Draco firearms, and a pistol. The search didn't stop there; a follow-up search warrant at an apartment in Hickory led to the seizure of additional cocaine and firearms. Byrd now faces multiple charges, including Trafficking in Cocaine by Possession and Trafficking in Cocaine by Transport.
Among the list of allegations, Byrd is also charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction, as noted in the Sheriff's Office's release. He is being detained in the Catawba County Detention Facility with a set bond of $400,000. His court date is scheduled for later this month, on November 24. The investigation into this matter continues as the Catawba County Sheriff's Office urges anyone with information about drug-related activities to reach out via their confidential tip line or other available means.
