A high-speed pursuit that began west of downtown culminated in a dramatic crash in the Reseda neighborhood, with at least three people taken into custody. The chase ensued after two individuals reportedly stole a Ford Fusion from the Westlake District. Tracking across the Mid-Wilshire and Koreatown areas, the chase spiraled through the city, as described in reporting by NBC Los Angeles.
Initial reports detail how the chase progressed, with the suspects' erratic driving prompting concerns for public safety. They reached speeds up to 60 mph on surface streets, according to CBS Los Angeles. Further complicating the pursuit, a white Dodge Durango, later identified as a vehicle driven by family members of the suspects, joined in the chase, contributing to a hazardous scene.
The LAPD had to momentarily back off, but a helicopter continued tracking the stolen vehicle as the driver switched between the emergency lane and passing on the shoulder on the northbound 405 Freeway. NBC Los Angeles noted the driver's brazen maneuvers, including traveling the wrong way on Vanowen Street amidst heavy traffic. Eventually, the chase ended when the driver jumped a curb at a Reseda intersection and crashed the vehicle.
Upon crashing, at least two suspects fled the vehicle, but their escape bid was short-lived. One attempted to scale a fence in an alley but was thwarted as law enforcement closed in, as detailed by footage from Fox Los Angeles. At the scene, police also detained an additional person, though their involvement in the incident has yet to be clarified. All suspects were quickly detained by the LAPD, putting an end to a chaotic episode that spanned several Los Angeles neighborhoods.
