San Antonio's State Highway 151 was temporarily closed but has since reopened following a collision that involved an off-duty deputy late Monday night. The incident occurred just past the Wiseman Boulevard exit on the city's Northwest Side, and it led to the highway being shut down for a stretch exceeding one hour after midnight.
The wreck, reported to have happened around 12:15 a.m., involved two vehicles, including that of the off-duty deputy. According to KENS 5, authorities were able to clear the scene, and there were no injuries reported in the crash. Despite the potential for severe outcomes in such late-night encounters, the commuters of San Antonio were fortunate to hear that no one was hurt.
The exact details surrounding the cause of the accident remain unclear, but what is known is that traffic along the crucial arterial route was significantly impacted as a result. Commuters had to seek alternate routes during the closure, which spanned the early hours when the city slumbers.
In addition to confirming the lack of injuries, FOX San Antonio notes that the off-duty deputy was involved in the wreck, though no further information was provided about their role.
As is typical following such events, an investigation is expected to thoroughly take place to determine the contributing factors that led to the accident. As of now, the Bexar County Sheriff's office has not released additional information concerning the incident or any potential charges resulting from the accident.
