Honolulu residents can expect strong trade winds through midweek as a high-pressure system strengthens north of the Hawaiian Islands. Occasional showers will mainly affect windward and mauka areas, with little change expected in precipitation patterns, according to the National Weather Service.
Coastal waters are already seeing stronger-than-expected winds, and advisories may expand as conditions intensify. Travelers and pilots should prepare for breezy conditions that could cause MVFR rules near windward and mountainous regions, as reported by the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service has issued a Small Craft Advisory for all Hawaiian coastal waters through Tuesday afternoon due to strong northeast trade winds and high seas. Trade winds may reach near-gale force around Maui County and the Big Island on Wednesday and Thursday. A north-northeast swell is raising surf heights under a High Surf Advisory until Tuesday morning for Niihau, Oahu North Shore, and parts of Maui and Kauai. The surf may affect harbor operations at Hilo and Kahului. Fire risk on land is low as humidity stays above critical levels.
