The City and County of Honolulu has recently been lauded as one of Forbes’ America’s Dream Employers 2026, an honor derived from a national survey of collegiate soon-to-be grads and existing employees from organizations nationwide. This accolade takes into account critical workplace variables, including development opportunities, salary, working atmosphere, organizational reputation, and cultural warmth within the workplace, all contributing to the overall employee experience. With nearly 10,000 employees, Honolulu's recognition as a Dream Employer shines a light on its efforts to provide a nurturing environment for its workforce.
Forbes, along with research firm Statista, conducts anonymous surveys to generate the Best-in-State Employers list, which has placed Honolulu at the top of Hawaii’s government entities for the seventh year. The City and County of Honolulu received the number four position overall in the state. In a statement obtained by Honolulu.gov, Mayor Rick Blangiardi said, "This truly is a proud moment for our City." He continued to speak to the exceptional commitment demonstrated by the workforce, adding, "We have worked hard to create a culture where employees are respected, supported, and given opportunities to succeed, and I want to congratulate all of our City employees for earning these well-deserved honors."
The America’s Dream Employers 2026 designation stands as public affirmation for organizations that demonstrate a robust workplace culture and a staunch dedication to employee success. According to the City and County of Honolulu announcement, the title is based on an independent research firm’s findings, which gathers insights from professionals already in the workforce alongside college students who are preparing to quickly join it. The surveys aim to evaluate various employment facets, such as working conditions and diversity.
Following this national recognition, the City and County of Honolulu continues to actively promote its commitment to being a supportive employer.
