Horizon City Police Department made an arrest last Friday involving a 40-year-old man, identified as Joshua Andrew Cordova, who now faces charges after a scuffle with police that involved an alleged attempt to snatch an officer's firearm. The man, according to the Horizon City Police Department, showed "clear signs of intoxication" with symptoms such as slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol.
The incident is reported to have occurred near the 13400 block of Horizon Boulevard. Officers encountered Cordova walking unsteadily on the sidewalk, nearly falling into a ditch. The officers opted to arrest him, citing public intoxication for his and the public's safety, during which Cordova resisted and seemingly attempted to flee. "Cordova attempted to remove the officer’s firearm," the Horizon City Police Department detailed, but was subdued after an officer deployed a Taser.
Following the altercation, Cordova was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. Charges filed against him include Public Intoxication, Resisting Arrest, and Attempting to Take a Weapon from an Officer. The police department commended the officers for their quick actions, which, according to the Horizon City Police Department, helped prevent "further danger to the public and themselves."
