A morning crash on Houston’s south side left one woman dead today after her car struck a tree on Bellfort and caught fire, authorities said. First responders found the vehicle fully engulfed and pronounced the driver dead at the scene. Lanes were temporarily closed while crews extinguished the fire and investigators examined the wreckage.
Houston Police Department officers told KHOU that the car caught fire after striking the tree and that speed may have been a factor in the crash. Video from the scene shows emergency crews around the burned vehicle while investigators examined the roadway and collected evidence.
The Houston Police Department Traffic Division remained at the scene to document the crash and interview potential witnesses. Officials have not released the driver’s identity. Anyone with information is asked to call HPD’s non-emergency line at (713) 884-3131 or submit tips to Crime Stoppers.
What Investigators Are Looking At
Traffic investigators will examine vehicle damage, skid marks, debris patterns, and any available surveillance or bystander footage to determine how the car left the roadway. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, and additional details will be released once confirmed.
