
Valdese, North Carolina became the focal point of a grim discovery when workers clearing storm debris stumbled upon human skeletal remains. The Valdese Police Department reported the incident, which occurred near the intersection of Praley Street SW and Massel Avenue SW yesterday, QC News informs.
According to the Valdese Police, the call came in just before 5 p.m., with officers securing the scene due to dwindling daylight and the need for a detailed investigation. The Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the remains as human following an examination. An article by WCNC, noted that the scene remained secured overnight, awaiting the investigators’ return at sunrise. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation along with Norfolk Southern Police Department have joined to assist with the ongoing investigation.
Details surrounding the identity of the deceased are yet to be disclosed as officials have not found any wallet, purse, or other personal identifiers near the remains. "I’m just hoping that they can find out who it is and maybe help the family put some closure to it," a worker, preferring anonymity, told WSOC-TV.
Further details will be released as the investigation, taking place just blocks from downtown Valdese, unfolds and progresses. While identities of the workers who first came across the remains have not been made public, their initial discovery has set a series of investigative events into motion. Valdese Police has yet to relay information regarding the estimated time the individual had been deceased, but the department's chief informed that the individual had been there for quite some time, as per WSOC-TV reporting.
