Four Illinois men were recently arrested after allegedly trespassing at the decommissioned William H. Zimmer Power Station in Clermont County, as reported by FOX19. The individuals—Sabri Mesli, 19, his brother, Rayane Mesli, 22, Evan McClow, 21, and Samuel Farrar, 22—all hail from Lombard, Illinois, and are currently being held without bond. Authorities also issued an arrest warrant for a fifth man, Ethan Kim, 21, who remains at large.
A statement obtained by WLWT, details that these charges stem from the group's attempt to produce social media content—photos and videos—at the site, this incident underscores the rising trend of young adults engaging in such activities for online clout, but doing so puts them and emergency responders at risk, as the property is not only dangerous but also, restricted and actively monitored, authorities hope these charges serve as a deterrent to others who might consider similar acts.
Enhanced security, including routine patrols and drone surveillance, was implemented at the station in response to the social media-fueled interest, Chief Deputy Mike White voiced his concerns about the site's inherent dangers, especially to unauthorized visitors, he said, "One of our concerns is that people are going to get onto the property and get injured," according to a FOX19 interview.
The WCPO reported that the individuals, discovered during a routine patrol, now face felony aggravated trespass charges, and with the issuance of the warrant for Ethan Kim, the Clermont County Sheriff's Office has made it clear that future incidents of trespassing will not be treated with leniency but will enforce charges without exception to prevent further incidents and potential tragedies.
