An investigation is ongoing after a shooting on the city's south side left one man dead and a woman injured on Saturday, as reported by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Officers were called to the 1700 block of Union Street, a neighborhood situated off Madison Avenue and just north of Raymond Street, in response to a report of a person shot, WISH-TV notes.
Upon arrival, law enforcement found both victims with gunshot wounds. While the man and woman were quickly transported to a local hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead after his arrival. The woman is currently listed in "serious but stable" condition, WTHR states.
The 64-year-old man believed to be connected to the incident has been arrested, however, details surrounding the events leading up to the shooting remain unclear at this time. The identities of both victims have yet to be released pending family notification. As part of their standard procedure, the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency and the Marion County Coroner’s Office are working alongside the IMPD to determine the cause and manner of the male victim's death.
Authorities are appealing to the public for information related to the shooting and have directed individuals to contact Detective Bradley Hinshaw with any relevant details, FOX 59 reports. "Police are encouraging those with information on the shooting to contact Detective Bradley Hinshaw at the IMPD Homicide Office" by phone or email for those who may have witnessed the event or have knowledge pertinent to the investigation.
