According to a statement by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, Torres was headed home in May when the crash occurred. Without a second's hesitation, he pulled over, discovering the driver in peril, mid-seizure, soon becoming unresponsive. A bystander, ripped from the routine of their day by the accident, joined Torres as they extracted the driver, now pulseless, from the wreck. Together, they initiated CPR, bridging the gap between life and death until the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue could arrive and assume responsibility.
By bestowing the title of Employee of the Month on Torres, the MCSO has signaled a recognition of character, service, and the kind of valor that does not discriminate based on a person's circumstances.
