Authorities responded to a call about gunshots at around 3:10 a.m. in the 600 block of Blake Street, a moment in the dead of night when most souls hope for nothing more than the solace of sleep, but instead, gunfire shattered that calm, according to the initial account of the Killeen Police Department to CBS Austin.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an individual who had fled from a residence claiming another person inside had been shot, while this information was being processed, shots were fired from within the dwelling aimed at law enforcement, prompting additional units to respond, FOX 7 Austin detailed. The situation escalated, necessitating the Killeen Police Tactical Response Unit's intervention; SWAT officers forcibly entered and found a 25-year-old man, the apparent victim, lying close to the doorway with gunshot wounds.
The chaotic scene took a further turn when officers attempted to remove the wounded man to provide emergency aid, but found themselves under continued attack as the suspect, a 36-year-old man, unleashed a barrage of gunfire onto them.
