In preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday, Jacksonville city government has announced a schedule for closures that will impact local offices and facilities. According to a press release from the City of Jacksonville, all city government offices, including City Hall at St. James and the Duval County Courthouse, will be closed tomorrow and Friday.
Services typically available to the public, such as the Tax Collector’s Office and the Office of the Property Appraiser, will also to close for the two-day duration. Moreover, the Supervisor of Elections main office and various administrative departments, like the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and the Solid Waste Division, will not be operational during this time. Those planning to use services are advised to schedule their visits outside of these dates.
Though most city-led activities will hit pause for the holiday, citizens have the opportunity to participate in the City’s Holiday River Fest on Saturday, November 29. For details on the festive event, information can be found on the city's website. Additionally, post-Thanksgiving waste collection will be moved to Saturday following the holiday, as per the announcement.
Animal care services have been adjusted as well, with animal adoptions set to continue at altered times. The Animal Care & Protective Services (ACPS) will open for adoptions from 12–4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and will extend their hours until 6 p.m. the following day. Regular operations for ACPS are to resume on Saturday. Public parks like Huguenot Memorial Park and Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park will remain accessible to the public, albeit with varied hours and potential temporary closures due to environmental or capacity concerns.
Jacksonville's libraries will see early closures at 6 p.m. today and will not reopen until Saturday. For athletic facilities, tennis centers will be completely closed, although non-supervised hard courts and pickleball courts will remain open for those seeking to get in some holiday exercise.
