Three teenagers have been charged in connection with a fatal assault that resulted in the death of 64-year-old Roger Borkum in Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident on October 19, and found Borkum with serious injuries. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died four days later.
The suspects—13-year-old Justin Curry, 16-year-old Robert Pope, and 19-year-old Marcavion Lacey—were identified and located by police following a witness account of the attack. According to The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the witness’s description was key in tracking down the suspects. JSO Homicide Unit detectives, working with the State Attorney’s Office, arrested Pope and Lacey shortly after Borkum’s death, while Curry was indicted by a Duval County grand jury on Thursday.
Justin Curry, the youngest suspect, was 12 years old at the time of the attack. All three individuals have been charged with murder. The circumstances and motivation behind the assault remain under investigation as the case progresses.
