The City of Janesville has announced service changes and closures in light of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. According to a recent press release, city facilities, including City Hall, the Janesville Transit Administration, and the Hedberg Public Library, will be closed on Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28. Additionally, services such as the Fire and Police Administration, Senior Center, and Water & Wastewater Utility Offices will not be available to the public during these days.
For residents looking to manage their waste during the holiday, the city's Sanitary Landfill, Demolition Landfill, and Compost Site will be fully closed on Thanksgiving Day. They are slated to quickly resume regular hours starting Friday, November 28. Changes to the trash and recycling schedule mean those with curbside collection services must be ready to place their carts out no later than 7 a.m. on the adjusted dates. Thursday’s collection will shift to Friday, and Friday’s routes will move to Saturday, November 29, according to the City of Janesville.
Local transportation will also be affected by the holiday schedule. The Janesville Transit System will pause its services on Thanksgiving Day, with the regular roster of buses, including the Beloit-Janesville Express, starting back up at 6:15 a.m. on November 28. While the School District of Janesville remains closed, supplementary service routes, known as "tripper" routes, will be temporarily suspended on November 26, 27, and 28, resuming their normal schedule come Monday, December 1.
Residents planning to access city services during the Thanksgiving period are advised to note the adjusted schedule. The changes accommodate the holiday observance and temporarily modify normal operations. City facilities will reopen and regular services will resume the following Monday.
