The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) has launched an investigation following the discovery of a deceased woman under a bridge near the Cedar River on Jacksonville’s Westside. As reported by First Coast News, officers arrived at the scene in the 3400 block of Blanding Boulevard around 6:30 p.m. yesterday after being informed about the body.
While the investigation is still in its early stages, JSO has indicated, as News4JAX describes, that the woman was believed to be in her 20s. The discovery was first made by a civilian, who while fishing, saw the body and subsequently alerted the authorities.
The incident, based on the current information available, is being treated as a homicide. However, JSO has assured the public that they believe this to be an isolated case with no immediate threats to the community at large. JSO is actively seeking assistance from the public to expedite their investigation. By a fisherman who was passing by, the body was discovered and authorities were flagged down.
