Honolulu police are in an active manhunt for a 53-year-old man they say beat two people with a hammer inside a Kalihi home late last month. The victims, a 58-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man, suffered significant injuries and were treated at local hospitals. The suspect is still on the run and is considered armed and dangerous, according to authorities.
According to Hawaii News Now, police have identified the suspect as 53-year-old Robert Malabey Jr. He is described as about 6 feet tall and roughly 240 pounds, with brown hair, green eyes, and a distinctive scorpion tattoo on his upper-left back. Officials are warning the public not to approach him if he is spotted and instead to call the police immediately.
A $100,000 warrant has been issued for Malabey's arrest, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Police say the case stems from an Oct. 25 assault and that investigators are running down tips and leads across Oʻahu. Anyone with information has been urged to call 911 or contact Honolulu CrimeStoppers at (808) 955-8300.
What Police Say Happened
HPD reports that the assault unfolded at about 11 p.m. on Oct. 25 at a residence near Middle Street in Kalihi, where Malabey allegedly struck both victims multiple times with a hammer, Hawaii News Now reports. The pair were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries, and detectives are still collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. Police have not announced any arrests in the case.
Neighbors And Neighborhood Concerns
Residents in Kalihi say the attack adds to growing unease in a neighborhood that has already seen a string of violent incidents in recent months, including stabbings and shootings. Community members say they want quick answers as detectives dig into the case, while local policing teams continue patrols in the area. Officials stress that people should share information with law enforcement rather than try to confront any suspect themselves.
