Kannapolis Water Treatment Plant Operations Manager, Gerald Faulkner, was recently honored with the 2025 B Well Operator of the Year Award by the North Carolina Waterworks Operators Association. This accolade is bestowed upon individuals who exhibit "demonstrating outstanding ability, and devotion and technical expertise in the operation of a water treatment facility," according to the city’s announcement.
Faulkner’s career in water treatment began in 1999 at the Kannapolis facility, after transitioning from an electrical contractor role at Cannon Mills. His journey saw him climb from Operations Supervisor to Manager after the City took control of the Water Treatment Plant in 2004. Notably, Faulkner led a significant $13.4 million upgrade to the plant, which included the construction and supervision of multiple new stations and improvements.
The awards and accolades don't cease with the B Well Operator of the Year. Under Faulkner's guidance, the Kannapolis Water Treatment Plant has consistently performed at an exemplary level, earning the American Water Operations Plant Award for nine consecutive years. This consistent recognition stands as a testament to his leadership and the plant's commitment to quality and efficiency in their operations.
Faulkner has also been committed to continuous learning and process improvement, participating in numerous training opportunities and introducing the latest technologies to his team. His initiatives have not only improved plant performance but have also included green projects that reduce energy usage, demonstrating a forward-thinking approach to environmental stewardship in his field.
