As Kapa‘a residents prepare for mid-December, they should brace for several road and lane closures that could impact their daily commute. According to Kauai County's latest press release, the Department of Public Works and Hirata and Associates Inc. will be undertaking geotechnical subsurface exploration to inform future traffic signal improvements and the placement of a new utility pole. These necessary interruptions will occur from December 15 to December 17, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., weather permitting.
The schedule for the closures will initiate on December 15 with a single-lane closure on Kukui Street, specifically affecting the left turn lane just west of the Kūhiō Highway intersection. On the following day, December 16, a portion of Kukui Street's east side at the same highway junction will be completely closed. The sequence of disruptions will conclude on December 17 with the closure of the south end of Niu Street, also adjoining Kūhiō Highway. While these traffic modifications are bound to create temporary inconveniences, access to properties along the affected routes will remain available to residents and business owners.
Municipal officials are urging the public to heed all posted signage and instructions from flaggers while navigating through or around the work zones. "Access to properties will be provided. Please observe and obey all traffic controls, posted signs and flaggers," as per the county's official website. Commuters in the area are advised to account for additional travel time and anticipate detours as well as potential delays stemming from the lane and road closures.
