Residents in parts of Kauai will experience a day-long water outage as the Department of Water conducts a system upgrade on Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., affecting Haleilio Road, Kaulana Road, parts of Kihei Road, and select restrooms at Opaekaʻa Falls Lookout. The DOW warns that disruptions may include low water pressure or no service during peak hours, weather permitting, according to the County of Kauai.
Residents are advised to prepare by storing sufficient water, with the Department of Water recommending, "Store enough water to meet your needs until water service is restored." Those directly affected, including homes near the Sleeping Giant Trailhead and on Nonou Road, are encouraged to notify family and exercise caution with water heaters and appliances during the shutdown, as reported by the County of Kauai.
During the upgrade, residents should use water carefully, especially with appliances that depend on it. Customers in the affected areas have been notified by Department of Water to secure their water heaters, particularly if they are faulty.
